Be Kind And Smile Often Karine UCLA Lung Transplant

Mom had a tough afternoon/evening yesterday. Yesterday’s X-ray showed worsening in both lungs and the team decided they wanted to go in and clear out her lungs since she has been needing more oxygen yesterday and today. During the bronchoscopy they gave her propofol for sedation but it has caused a bad reaction in the past. (She was confused with bad brain fog and weak for three days last time) They got out a lot during the procedure but nurse said it wasn’t super thick. They sent a sample to the lab for cultures. She was super super disoriented and didn’t get a lot of sleep. She was also very twitchy/couldn’t control her muscles.

The nurse said she slept from 11-1 am when she woke up and was alert. Her confusion seemed to be more resolved although she is still not sure where she is.

She is very drowsy but able to respond and answer the nurses. CT scan at 7 am shows the right plural space filling with fluid and the team is discussing draining it and placing a chest tube on the right side. She will remain on the ventilator today and rest. She was unable to walk earlier but they will try again this afternoon.
