Thursday, April 30th - Update

Mom update. 

She is heading to the OR now. The lung wash will give the doctors visibility on the lungs and will allow them to clean out /drain the plural space. CT showed small improvement in the upper left lung but the lower lobes are fully collapsed still. They believe it is a mechanical problem somewhere and hope this surgery will provide better insight. 

Her nurse today is amazing and is the one who gave her a massage / brought essential oils last week. She had me on speaker phone during rounds so I could hear what the doctors said. Last night she was on the vent (settings 10/4 at 40%) from 10 pm to 6 am. Her c02 is still in the 80s and didn’t not change overnight. She was back on the high flow trach collar at 40 liters at 40% this morning. Her white blood cell count is down to 9.5. The sample from the bronch has not cultured anything but she is still on three broad spectrum antibiotics. 

Lung wash surgery will be a few hours long and I will update as soon as I hear.

Surgery has been pushed until tomorrow at 7am because they have to wait for her covid text to come back. All surgeries need a negative covid test within 24 hours. So she is resting now 🙃
