Be Kind And Smile Often Karine UCLA Lung Transplant

Mom has been of the ventilator since the 14th and doing pretty well. She has made significant progress.

Because she is doing well on the trach collar, they want to give her time on the current setup. Over the next week they want to see her continuing to do well, they do eventually want to downsize her trach but they don’t want to rush that.

Long term plan, if they demonstrate that she can tolerate being off the ventilator for a long period of time (a couple of weeks) then they may not need a home ventilator. They have all been debating if she continues to progress as she has, if they should look into less invasive ventilation like a bipap.

X-ray shows right lung is opening up more. Left lung is uncharted territory. Her plural space is very complex. But they will continue to access it as we go.

She is moving off the icu floor to a regular floor today! Woohoo! Very excited for a nice window and private bathroom.

The general plan for the future (after this no ventilator test) is to have her on the trach collar during the day and then rest on the ventilator at night as they transition her to eventually coming home.
