Tuesday, March 24th - Update
Morning! Moms surgery is scheduled for 11 am now. They will sedate her and perform the lung wash and then replace the gtube. Finally got a chance to talk to the pulmonologist who explained really clearly what is happening. A scan a few days ago showed that the bottom part of the lungs were collapsed potentially due to fluid. A new X-ray shows slight improvement but some fluid build up around the lungs. The new ct scan shows not enough fluid for them to drain via needle so they decided to open her up and remove whatever is in there bothering her lungs. The scan also showed some fluid in her lungs which they partially removed during yesterday’s bronchoscopy. The fluid looked a bit tinted and showed signs of a slight infection. They are waiting for the results to see if they need to change her antibiotic but she is on a broad spectrum antibiotic currently. The doctor said they will continue to try and take her off the ventilator but it’s a slow process as she retains too much co2. The lung wash should help reduce lung irritation and let her lungs heal.

Okay so it’s a bit complex. They had trouble with her blood pressure dropping and keeping her oxygen levels during the surgery. The lung wash was successful but they couldn’t do the gtube replacement since they needed to end the surgery. They have placed another chest tube and she seems to have a substantial amount of bleeding. They brought her back and did another bronchoscopy. Haven’t talked to the doctors yet since they are super busy. But she is back in her room and stable. The nurse set up the iPad so I’m able to FaceTime her and talk to the nurses which is great. She woke up in a lot of pain but they are working to help manage it.
