Monday, April 13th - Update
Mom is doing well. Heart is stable. Blood pressure dropped this morning so they gave her a unit of blood and it helped.
She is pretty swollen today since they didn’t put her on any diuretics yesterday. They are increasing the lasiks today to help with that. She is also now on volume control meaning they are limiting the amount of fluids she can receive due to the amount of fluid retention she has. They have switched her to a new food formula that has double the calories with the same amount of formula since she will be getting less feedings today. She is having some gi issues they think the antibiotics are causing.
The nurse said she is in a decent amount of pain and they are trying to get her some stronger medication. First walk was tough but she did it! Due to the low blood pressure they will keep her at 9/5 ventilator settings today.
Yesterday chest tube was placed on the right side. They drained 200 cc of non-blood fluid so she is not actively bleeding which is good. They performed the bronchoscopy after and did a bronchial wash.
X ray showed lots of improvement on the right lung a few hours after surgery. Apparently the last ct scan showed that it had a pneumothorax and fluid build up - which is why they wanted to go in asap.
Right chest tube drained another 230 ccs of fluid (non blood) last night/ this morning.
Left shows no visible improvement. Still a pneumothorax and thickening of the lung tissue. Left chest tube put to water seal, they might remove it ima few days since it isn’t putting anything out.
Moms heart was in and out of a fib yesterday but stable today. The a fib is a concern but the medication lowers blood pressure so they stop it and give her medication to increase her blood pressure which triggers a fib again. They are monitoring the clots. She enjoyed the Easter video we made so thank you to everyone for your help!
