2019
2019 already has started off full of joy. Yesterday mom did a breathing trial for over an hour which means that her lungs are getting closer to being able to support her in their own. What a miracle. She is able to write down things as well as mouth the words. We haven’t quite got the whole lip reading thing down yet but lots of laughs as we try to play charades. She is a good sport. Her vitals are all improving and the have removed her central line for a PICC. She now frequents her cardiac chair and gets to bask in some sunlight at the huge window we have. UCSD is such an amazing hospital. We often call it a hotel, it feels so fancy. Her room is covered in pretty decorations and photos which makes all the nurses smile. They tell us it smells good too so they like to come check in. We also keep the room stocked with good snacks that we hand out. Sometimes it is little things right? It has been really special to find such love and joy in the critical care icu and I hope that those around us feel it too. Today is another breathing trial and maybe some sitting up. She has been getting more and more movement back into her legs and is anxious to get back on the dance floor. No word on UCLA yet but hopefully after the holiday. Prayers for Mom’s comfort, she is off sedation completely and is only managing pain with Tylenol and Advil. What a warrior. Prayers for the doctors, nurses and Respiratory therapists. Prayers for peace and that this year is full of joyful celebration. Sending love from San Diego, T (watercolor postcard painted by mom a couple months ago) #pulmonaryfibrosis #Godisgood
