Hello from Karine’s daughters Nicole & Taryn. We wanted to thank everyone for your love and encouragement for our mom. It has been an incredibly tough time but we have rallied around her with so much love and support. We wanted give an update and ask for continued prayers of miraculous healing, wisdom for the doctors, comfort from pain & peace resting in God’s will. Mom was admitted to the ER on the 22nd into the ICU where her lungs started to fail resulting in intubation and sedation on a ventilator. Her body was overtaken by the common cold virus which allowed her pseudomonas to flair up. Her lungs filled up with gunk and got extremely inflamed, compromising the limited use that they had. New CTs show only 15% viable tissue left in her right lung. The left has become pretty much hollowed out with scar tissue. The risk of a pneumothorax is high. She is also prehypertensive and her heart has the tough task of working overtime.
Despite all that, and thanks to great antibiotics, respiratory therapy, sleep and God’s grace, she has responded amazingly. She has been weened off of lots of medications to only a few antibiotics and a low dose of sedation meaning she can nod and open her eyes a tiny bit. She even started moving more today, PT helped her sit on the end of the bed and she can nod yes and shake no. We even got a few dramatic eyebrows and a shoulder shake laugh that made our day. She still has bad headaches and general pain from immobility but has been an amazing warrior through it all. She is working hard to get her lungs and body ready so she can get off the ventilator, and we are cheering her on! We have read her all your messages and continue to keep the room alive with praise music and lots of laughter. Please send us any messages you want us to share with her & keep her in your prayers. Sending love and hope from San Diego.
