Be Kind And Smile Often Karine UCLA Lung Transplant

Just talked to the team. They don’t believe that the “failure” was because of lack of ventilation. They think it was accumulation of secretions in the lungs. Mom had a bronchoscopy on Friday where they found lots of thick secretions that cultured pneumonia. They placed a chest tube on the right side yesterday but noted that the fluid was more gel like and unable to drain fully. They believe it’s old fluid and plan on taking out the chest tube in a few days. Today’s bronchoscopy was slightly better for the right side. Dr. A said that her lungs look stable, no big change since the last Ct. They will do a bronchoscopy every 3 days and do more suctioning / RT. They want to retrain us to do suctioning at home as well as get a ventilator for home. They will leave in the trach as is and work on getting her back to the floor.  Same plan as before. High flow during the day and ventilator at night. Eventually getting to no ventilator, back on the regular floor and then going home.
