Be Kind And Smile Often Karine UCLA Lung Transplant

Okay so another one of those more complex updates. Albeit a bit shorter then the essay of a message I wrote last week.

Moms left lung is still not responding well to the treatments and they will be taking a CT to check it out. They are deciding if they need to place another chest tube later today. Her oxygenation is doing well and they have put her on the vent settings of 8/5 as of last night.

Around 10 her heart went back into a-fib and she was put back on medication. It resolved around 12 and has been stable since but they want to do an echo to check it out. They had to stop the heparin this morning for the ct scan and possible surgery to place the chest tube.

She is dealing with nausea every morning as she gets shifted around for her X-ray or when she goes to stand up too quickly. They are treating with medication but monitoring it closely. She is having a bit of skin breakdown on her lower back from laying so much but the nurse said it’s looking better.

The left arm and legs are still swollen but they will be wrapping them to help push the fluids out today. The doctor told me that A-fib can cause more blood clots which is why they would treat with heparin but due to her history of bleeding and the potential surgery to place the chest tube (and maybe an additional lung wash procedure sometime) they can only give her a low dose. Everything is a balance.

For our good news portion of the update, she is doing great with her two walks a day and getting full use of our Disney+ plus account. She is looking great and getting strong everyday. It’s so nice to see her sitting up and being able to sit in her chair for longer. We share all your messages with her and she sends her love back 💕

——update——

Echo went well and we are waiting on ct results. Mom had a tougher day with two newer nurses who weren't able to communicate well with her. She had two walks and did TWO laps on the second walk.
